The Open Day at St Martin’s Church, Camberley gave supporters and the public a chance to see what students are capable of through displays about their activities at the Camberley service, including independently created artwork and creative projects.
The main objective of the Open Day was to display a visual record of the students’ individual achievements and to show that, by working in a person-centred way and thinking outside of the box, it is possible to find ways for students to participate in a variety of activities in their own way.
Day Service Manager Darren and the team are mindful to remember the importance of everyone achieving some sort of independence, big or small, in the activities they take part in. This can be achieved with patience and time.
To this end, the students and staff put together a board (for each student) showing a visible example of each student’s achievements.
Attending parents and carers were very knowledgeable about what the service provides for their family member, however, everyone was extremely surprised by what their family member had achieved and how staff had supported in such a way to enable them to achieve their goal.
