Together Matters is an organisation built on the belief that talking and working together helps to make better things happen in the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families. Their website suggests how they can help you in four key areas: planning the future, checking the quality of support, people with learning disabilities as carers and growing older.
If you are a parent or family carer you may like to read the “Making Decisions” section of the Thinking Ahead planning guide (to help families put things in place for the future). It’s free to download: http://www.togethermatters.org.uk/1-making-decisions-pdf-2/
It gives an overview of the MCA (mental capacity act), suggests ways to involve people in making decisions and also links to more detailed resources. Together Matters also has a resource to support people with making choices which is part of a guide called “I’m Thinking Ahead”.
There’s also “How to Make Choices”, which is free to download from this link. http://www.togethermatters.org.uk/how-to-make-choices-pdf/
