Changing Places – Don’t Let the Pandemic Stop Progress

Parent Lorna Fillingham on her ‘A Wheelie Great Adventure’ blog writes:

“As public places open up, and people are complaining about the lack of toilet facilities, please remember that this is the norm for many disabled people. 1 in 260 people NEED Changing Places toilets which have an adult changing bench & hoist as well as a loo. Currently there are only 1483 registered facilities. To put that in perspective there are over 2,500 toilets in Wembley stadium alone.”

You can sign Lorna’s petition at http://bit.ly/toilets4all.

The petition has been running for 5 years. Lorna took it to Downing Street and a change in building regulations has been promised.

Changes to building regulations were announced in the Budget as well as £30 million to provide more facilities in England.

Yet the pandemic threatens to put all this progress on hold.

Lorna is urging people to write to local MPs about it too.

Last year, Parity students met with NHS representatives to discuss a changing places facility at Frimley Park Hospital. Read about it HERE.
