A bead necklace donated to Parity’s North Camp shop turned out to be worth £700 at auction!
Auctioneers Ewbank’s listed the graduated oval amber bead necklace, 61 cm in length, with an estimated value of £300-500, after Assistant Manager Nicola Barnett-Reddy presented it to them. In sorting through all the donations that had arrived at the shop after re-opening, Nicola immediately recognised the necklace’s potential value. “I just looked at it and I was pretty sure it was worth something.”
Nicola has had success many times with donated items put under the hammer (currently online). She takes a great interest in antiques and collectables. “I watch anything I can about antiques,” Nicola said, adding that she also has plenty of books on the subject. Volunteer Amanda O’Neill assists Nicola in taking items for valuation and in addition operates Ebay sales for Parity, bringing in yet more income.
