The Camberley day service have been prepping for the last 3 weeks for World Book Day. Each staff and student had to choose their favourite book/comic and bring it to life. We all had to come up with two ways to bring our book to life in a sensory way. For example, we had Keyworker Sam dressed as Paddington bear, who handed out marmalade sandwiches!
Other storybook characters included student Richard as Batman, who flaunted his costume in front of an iconic Gotham City background.
Student Ian was Billie Bunter, a classic character from Ian’s childhood.
Another student performed a song he loves, ‘1 2 3 4 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive’ using push-button ‘quick talkers’ that students use to press and play recordings. He even had some fake teeth that were trying to bite people’s fingers!
Student Alan’s favourite book was one about flags. He dressed in a flag t-shirt and had quick-talkers with the national anthem recorded from various flags which he pressed for us all to hear.
Student Lisa as Cinderella played the Big Ben chimes on our giant interactive screen, and took around a ‘glass slipper’, which each staff and student would try on.
Another student, as Lightening McQueen from the Cars movie, made car sounds and played music.
Senior Keyworker Rebecca was Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. We had yellow lego bricks to hand around, for the yellow brick road, and a parachute ride for the hot air balloon, along with bubbles.
Manager Darren and Senior Keyworker Ian as Tweedledee and Tweedledum had a very silly dance to entertain us all.
Senior Keyworker Becky’s book was Where’s Wally? She hid behind screens along with printed pictures of Wally dotted around the centre for everyone to find.
We also had Noddy, Rupert the Bear, Hot Dog and Merlin the wizard!
