Graffiti Art

This is an activity for outside as it is messy!

Full instructions for making the paint and then the graffiti art are below the video.

First you will need to make the paint!

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • pinch of salt (optional)
  • extra water
  • Food colouring

Pour flour and water into a saucepan.

Stir over a medium heat until it comes together like smooth, thick paste. (Don’t worry if the mixture is lumpy, it will come together.)

When it starts to pull away from the saucepan remove from the heat.

Add a pinch of salt. (This helps keep the paint from spoiling if you don’t use it right away.)

Slowly add cold water to the mixture to reach the desired consistency. (This will be runny if using it in a spray bottle.)

Divide the mixture into bowls.

Add food colouring into the flour mixture until you reach the desired colour.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge if you’re not planning to use this right away.

Now for the graffiti art!

You will need:

  • Paint
  • Paper or an old sheet/material
  • Spray bottles etc.

Put the paper or sheet up against a fence or on a patio/grass area. (Remember to secure it so that it does not blow away in the wind.)

Add paint to a spray bottle (you can use a syringe/washing up bottle or brushes to flick the paint.)

Now get creative – spray the sheet or paper and design a masterpiece.

Allow to dry before taking down/in.
